Edging Forward

Matt has a slightly different direction he's thinking about going in with his character. A Jedi apprentice who fled with his master during Order 66. They were hunted down years later, and the master was slain. Matt's char fled and cut himself off from the Force entirely, and hid the sabers in a mine. A decade later, when Alderaan was destroyed, he still felt it in the Force, and took that as a call to action - his destiny was to join the Rebellion and fight injustice. He was on the assassination mission to take out the Moff, but went mainly because he felt the Force called him. And he was more interested in freeing slaves than assassinating anyone.

We'll talk more when we'll all in session together, to knit together this new character with the existing ones. And we need to come up with the stats for our characters. There was some discussion about distributing points, but no one wrote anything down.

I'm dropping the Obligation, Duty, and Morality systems presented in the core books. I like what they represent, in terms of creating motivations and relationships between characters and the game world. I think we're doing a good job of coming up with those on our own. I don't think we need more fiddly numbers associated with them.

If players start using Dark Side force points to power their abilities, I *will* be tracking that, and I will try to present options for redemption, or at least remorse. And if it gets too bad, then I will ask that the person either redeem or relinquish their character. But I'm not going to make the players try to track numbers on it. And I'm not going to allow players to game bad behavior for maximum firepower.

I'm also going to give players the option to describe their own failures in a creative fashion. I wanted to attach XP rewards when the players came up with exceptional descriptions. But it makes some of the players uncomfortable. The idea that some players might earn more XP than others doesn't appeal to everyone's sense of fairness.

The question I started asking the players last night was : What sort of tasks do you want to be doing most or best during the campaign? I'd like to get the players to think more concretely about the ways in which they will go about pursuing their goals, and tie that to Skill choices. Which in turn influences allocation of Attributes and choice of Careers and Specialties.

We had a good night chatting, and Sean has now seen Episode 7! So we can talk freely about things now. Looking forward to next session!
